THE ART OF CASA LA HUERTA

The design philosophy at Casa La Huerta honors the ancient traditions of Mexican textiles and pottery while also introducing contemporary pieces such as collage photography by local Careyes resident Lea Marcaccini, young Oaxacan loom artist Fey y Lola Rugs, and woven light sculptures depicting the Mayan legend Quetzalcoatl by Emma Boomkamp

In the media room you will find yourself lounging between two of these woven works of art, providing a feeling of artistic immersion that is delightfully inescapable throughout Casa La Huerta. As you explore the property and suites, you will find hand made pottery, sculptures, wall hangings, and light fixtures created by local artists.

THE ART OF MEXICO

THE ICONIC SERPIENTE POOL

Our pool features something very special beneath its waters: a bespoke mosaic serpent uniquely designed for Casa La Huerta.  Inspired by the mystique of a Bulgari snake necklace, The Serpiente Pool is a black bottom plastered masterpiece with an elegant slithering serpent tile mosaic finished in real 24k gold tile imported from Bisazza Tile in Italy. Designed for optimal health, this salt water, ozone filtered pool is fully heated and hosts a jacuzzi feature.

THE ART OF SURREALISM

THE COSMIC EYE BAR

Near to the Serpiente Pool is the Cosmic Eye Bar, a handmade intertwining of natural and man-made beauty, featuring hand designed, chemical etched hammered Brass inlaid with sequential agate stones, all sliced from the same geode. These stones were selected at the annual Arizona Gem Show and inlaid with handmade brackets by Raven Kauffman. When closed, the Eye shows the two panels as a solid sculpture; the panels then open to reveal back lit shelves that house a bespoke tequila collection.

The owners and designers behind Casa La Huerta are longtime attendees of the annual Burning Man Gathering.  There they have encountered artists who have deeply affected them with their monumentally beautiful artworks. Bringing the transformative feeling of Burning Man to Careyes, these artists have been given a home to showcase their works in the unique environment of the jungles of Careyes.

THE ART OF BURNING MAN

SOUND GARDEN

Upon entering the property, guests are greeted by a giant “magiscope” or kaleidoscopic eye sculpture by FutureEyes. Continuing on, the ears are delighted by the cosmic sounds of the “Gameletron” by Aaron Taylor Kuffner, a hand crafted multi piece Gong sculpture that plays a variety of custom created sound scapes reflecting the nature of Careyes.

EQUILIBRIA

Rounding the corner in the entry way, the view opens to the 10 foot tall “Equilibria” light sculpture by the revered husband-wife team, Hybycozo.

All three of these artists are significant contributors to the landscape of Burning Man; FutureEyes is known for his magical installations and collaborations with the Mayan Warrior team, Taylor-Kuffner created the sound installation for the base of the Man in 2017, and Hybycozo creates some of the most magical and highly anticipated light installations of large proportion on the Playa every year. Kuffner and Hybyzoco were also featured in the Smithsonian’s “No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man”.

It is an honor to showcase these artists on our property.
